We are looking for a new Credit Card processing company and I was just wondering if there is anything new or cutting-edge in the world of credit cards. I know there has been a lot of discussion in the past but it seems there is always something new. Does anybody use Costco? Thanks.

Vinke, I believe you're talking about Boris and his gang. He's the same guy that supplies the girls for Big Bob. Lately that guy has been right on Target!

I've been looking into a new merchant. I was looking at these reviews. Does anyone have any experience with Leaders merchant services?

Related to this thread, I found out not too long ago due to a govt. contract I had that using square or paypal doesn't qualify for some folks who desire to pay you with credit cards. While for homeowners this is going to work, you may find yourself needing a true merchant card service from a bank or other.

What I was told was that this particular outfit I've done some exclusions and mitigations for, was that their accounting people see square and others as third party people and not allowed.

I looked into BOA and a couple of others, all can be setup overnight and were reasonable enough even if paying for the little machine to be fine with my business needs and costs.

Vinke, D&B just asked me for some updated info, but I haven't thought of them since we started the company. The govt. entities I have done work for and do work for since starting usually pay either by check (state agencies) or with a credit card (fed agencies) as long as the size of the purchase is within the single purchase range.

Never thought of D&B as a way to funnel the funds, do you know how long it generally takes you for payment from submitting invoice? The state check method is always going to be that way until they decide otherwise, but for feds is where I ran into square being a third party problem, though easily solved for less than $200 a year I believe with BOA or some other institution.

Justin, It is only the feds that have required D&B for direct deposit and it is 1-3 weeks.
I think it depends on when the pay cycle is in the month?
State gov has never complained about square for me

I used to use a company owed by one of the big banks (can not think of the Bank name at this time) but they charged a monthly fee, a percentage and a fee for a virtual terminal

Thanks Vinke,

Pay cycle is another important term for folks to learn as they get those types of contracts, many times you can wait a month for payment, but sometimes doing a larger job with lots of equipment or overhead and submitting your invoice just after the new month has started is a drag for less of a good term for it.

We've been subcontracting for consulting firms for a variety of wildlife issues and learning how each one pays is a real carnival of fun! smile

Of course now we ask up front about how/when they pay and keep close track, though we have tolerance on most jobs to wait due to low overhead.

It was the feds that wanted me to have a SAMS number and a D&D number to pay with credit card. SAMS number was easy. D&B not so much. Said they only paid with credit card. Would have to do a lot of work to pay for $900.00.

To potentially speed up payment for State and Federal jobs, make sure to give a 2% 10/NET 30 term. As most governmental agencies are required to take discounts when offered it speeds up the payment process.

I use Square and PayPal Here, preferring Square. Eric made a good point - I had a large skunk job at one of many manufacturing plants owned by a company here in SW Missouri. At the inception of the service agreement he mentioned that if I offered a NET 10 discount I would be paid immediately as they were told to take all discounts. Otherwise. it was a 45 day turnaround. I also had several jobs with a nearby town and the city council had to approve all invoices before signing the checks. Now, I offer them a 5% /NET 10 and the manager is allowed to pay me as soon as she receives the invoice, even if I do it in person.
