Just spent the last 2and a half hours looking for one of my whippets , she disappeared in,to a small wood after rabbits ,ithuoght she would be back out soon, i went to another wood to check on my laying pheasants ,still no sighn of her but i thought she might be back at the van ,not there either ,its now starting to go dark so i rang the good lady and asked her to meet me at the farm and bring our son and the lamp so we could carry on looking for her, first field we looked in a great big pair of eyes about 40 yds away ,shouted fly [dogs name],took no notice, but it wouldnt because it was a vixen [thats what we call female foxes] it was wanting to be back into the wood where the whippet went, i reckon this fox will have a litter of cubs in the wood and when the dog went in she has disturbed them and the vixen has dragged my dog away to get her away from the cubs, i spend loads of hours lamping foxes and very rarely get
them this close , dog eventually came back with a couple of bites in her nose but she was allright, if i have time tomorrow imight go and have a look with terrier, they are just a bit close to the pheasant pens.

Brian, I envy you the pheasants. We used to have world class pheasant hunting in our part of Wisconsin and now we have none. Funny thing, it was weather and not predators that did them in. The years we caught the most foxes were the years we shot the most pheasants.
