Very nice job. If I may offer a little advise I would suggest that you put a pencil or something equivalent through an eye hole if your DNR tags the otter. Do this when you put the otter on the board. I see you did a great job skinning the otter with the exact eye holes. Nothing worse than going to register and the tag wont go throught the eye.

a Snare Shop cheapo. i took a belt sander and file to it and made my own "necker" knife. it'll almost shave on the outside edge. really helps on the beaver... but you can cut a hole quick if you aren't careful. thanks for the comment!

Looking at it, I don't think my boards are wide enough. How wide should they be at the skirt? (base of tail)

Thanks all, i'm happy to hear all this, since its the first otter i've ever done!! gives me hope for the next one.
Nancy, i was gonna sell it and get my other one ( a bigger male) tanned.... but the market has me skittish about shipping, maybe i can find a local furbuyer for it? i'm still undecided.

 G3,
that is a coon board, believe it or not. i bought a Large otter board for my male, but wasn't smart enough to get a small otter board also. so i just eyeballed it and smacked it on a coon board (medium size i think).

G3, that is a small coon board that i made do with. i just measured it: 48" long, 7" across at base. hope that helps.

He does look a little "early", but you can't help what he was before your trap smacked him down. All in all it looks like a great job RP. You took a lot of pride in it, and it shows. I'd certainly buy it, and I am sure your fur buyer will like your work as well. Good job. Hope you saved the penis bone, Nancy might want it.

nope, don't reckon there is anything there she'd want. In a 110 huh? Just goes to show that everyday on the trapline is like Christmas morning. You have no clue what is in those packages, but you know it is going to be something interesting at the very least.
