Can you post a picture? If so, it would sure help me understand what you are describing.
The way it sounds, to me, is that the female skunk is accessing the hole by either-
1. Between the lattice and the end of the stove.
2. Between the wall and the back of the stove.
With a little bit of fencing, if required, a positive catch set could be set at both of these locations. I would set a trap at both locations to catch anything coming out and another trap at each location to catch anything trying to enter.
My son picked up three skunk kittens today. They are just a little bigger than a chipmunk. The homeowner had not seen the female skunk in a week or so, but had seen a couple of dead adult skunks on the road near the house. The skunk kittens were coming out of the den looking for their mother or something to eat. The homeowner said that there are a total of five kittens, so he made two positive sets for them.
Is there a crawlspace under the home? Around here, the actual den is often in the crawlspace. If there is a crawlspace, and since you are a “big ol boy”, you may need to hire an assistant for a day or two. Sometime a trap, baited with canned cat food, set near the den will catch the young ones.
If the female is still visiting the den, sometimes it is best to wait until the young are seen outside the den.
Wishing you the best of success.
