This one is day two, set up Thursday afternoon, and still has large numbers exiting. The mass on the walls are trying to get back in. They can't and should transfer nicely to the bait hive nuc.
The colony inside is a recently moved in swarm that should have no more than a few pounds of comb and very little honey as we are past the main flow. This combined with location made them an excellent candidate for a trap out.
The entry point is the bathroom fart fan. Installing the one way was as easy as they come. Slap a piece of plywood with a one inch hole drilled dead center over the vent hole, secure with tapcons. Over the one inch hole, new entrance, install a porter bee escape. Simple, quick and efficient.

I am jealous!!!

I haven't had the chance to do much bee work this year. I am usually at about 8-10 swarms and a cut out/trap out by this time of year.

I have only had two swarm calls, both of which were gone when I got there. One is in a house that is considering me taking them out. The other I followed to a big old silver maple that will be a pain to trap out, but I am considering doing it for the experience.

Wouldn't you know it, after several years of catching swarms and giving them to local beekeepers, I decided to start keeping bees again. And now I can't even get a dang swarm!!!

A nice big swarm 16Jun14. Finally I get some bees (and a decent check for removal).

Nice big swarm. I hate it when they plaster themselves to a wall like that.

I just finished up a removal 30' up in the soffit work of an 1800's Tudor home. It had been there continuously for the last 13 years.

Those are the bees you want, survivors.

Most of my hives are headed by queens from stock like this. One of my first criteria for keeping a cutout is that it has to have been there continuously for 5 or more years. Those are what I raise my queens from after I have had them in my yards for a couple of years to see how they do.
