Because I have been fortunate enough to witness this at least a couple of times before, I needed prompting to put it into print.

We have a skunk job at one of our management company's property that we have been doing longer than the management company.

One of the properties has a family of skunks under their deck. ( And raccoons that love to throw our skunk traps around )

One of the problems is that the raccoons don't seem to notice that the cages they are throwing around contain skunks!

There were seven baby skunks, plus Mom. We've caught three babies, so far. Today, I met the rest of the family.

Baby skunks have no idea that they are nocturnal. Mrs. Skunk is about to blow a gasket! I'm standing perfectly still.

The first baby out is almost at my feet. Here comes Mom, really bookin'. She grabs the baby by the nape of the neck and drags it back underneath the deck. She then grabs the other three and does the same. This is why I would never consider any other business.

Skunks are like rock bands: They don't know that they're nocturnal until you tell them!

P.S. Mrs. Skunk would not have sprayed me because of the kids. Unfortunately all four of the kids would have given it their best shot.

Love it Paul! smile

We didn't do much skunk work in the past but last year had an orphaned litter out milling about and as you say right up to my feet before it realized someone was standing there!

Love seeing the things others don't in the general public, one of the gifts of working with wildlife!

Great story Paul! I had a similar experience with little ones but I had caught Mom already. The veterans know this already but I love catching those little ones in a colony trap.

i have been doing a beaver job for a county here in central iowa and today while standing knee deep in the water making a beaver set i notice bubbles about 15 feet away and they are coming closer and coming fast...i draw the pistol thinking i am about to get a beaver point blank....nope...otter gets to my boot and sticks his head out of water...we both stared at each other for a couple seconds and a big splash and he is gone....who else gets to have these kind of moments...not the people that sit in those easy chairs i can guarantee ya

The otter left thinking, "If this dude was just a little bit smaller, I could be sitting on the shore munching on a nice fresh meal."
