I am going to start making bait tomorrow. It is my first time. I am using beaver meat and Castors mixed with venny meat. Also have dobblins bait solution. I'm going to tant the meat for 4 or 5 days. Do I need to stir it everyday or just leave it?

That dobblins bait solution has castor in it, but you can always add more. Like Kirk, I like to stir it once a day for about a week after the bait solution is mixed in.

I am tainting my bait right now, today is the sixth day in a plastic pail with lid and a put a 1/2" hole in the lid then I siliconed a piece of burlap around the edge to still allow it to breath but not allow the insects in. Now what? Lol I was going to grind up and add sodium benzoate to it. (1 cup per gal) Would that be right?
It's only a problem if there's no solution

The bait solution has the SB in it. It also should have come with a small bag of it. Grind the meat, pour in the solution mix the bag of SB in a cup of warm water. Pour it in give it a stir & cover. I stirred my everyday for about a week or so. This also allows you to check it. I found a couple of maggots in mine. I caught it right away and froze the bait for 2 days to kill them. Then continued as normal checking it once a week for about a month. I kept it a container with an air stone to let it vent. Worked like a charm. I just moved the bait to plastic storage containers without a vent and they are doing fine now they are all preserved and done off gassing.

Okay thank you, I stirred in the SB earlier because it looked and smelled like it needed something! Lol I did have some insects and maggots in one of the two containers. I will freeze it when I get back home to stop any further damage. Thanks for the tips!

Best to stir in late evening or night when flies aren't active.

When in liquid form, the sodium benzoate penetrates the meat faster than if you just pour in the powder.

I did have some insects and maggots in one of the two containers. That's because burlap is too coarse. Use a few layers of womens nylons, or any tight knit fabric, even old flannel shirt patch.

I tainted the meat then ground it up and mixed everything together.
