These are some of the cagiest coons i have encountered. After catching a few skunks I thought maybe I was wrong about the raccoons, but i put a trail cam up and got a few on camera. I have tried setting traps for circling, new baits, changed areas, they just ignore the whole thing.

I even tried putting a trap in a tipped over trash can and they just ignore that.

Any advice is welcome.

If positive setting the location isnt an option, you maybe forced to use a Dog proof style trap or bait the area without cages for a week or so then put the cages back out. If you have only tried sweet baits, you may want to try protein baits and set up off ground in an attempt to discourage felines. What also works from time to time is a covered double door trap. These type of raccoon are profit killers arent they.

Lets not even mention the profit margins

I may try dog proofs. I just Ger worried it may run away with one.

Go to a "different" bait. I worked a coon for a week with marshmallows and sardines. Her undoing came in the form of Mc Donalds French fries. Must have been a dumpster diver!

Bones from Popyeyes Fried Chicken work well also.

Sometimes apple juice, mountain dew, coke.

If they have been caught before and turned loose, good luck. Going to have to use something different.

I figure if I haven't caught them using Tomahawks, Wickenkamps, 2-door Havaharts, Comstocks, and plastic traps and have used 6 types

of commercial lures, 7 kinds of dog food, and 8 types of cat food, they probably got run over by a danged old truck. I don't know

about your temperature in Cauliflower but come the end of October here, our raccoons have thrown out all the diet magazines and will

go to great lengths to eat anything and everything and they don't seem to let a little thing like a cage get in their way. I'm sure I

have an unfair advantage but getting ready for our cold winters can turn every coon into an eager eater up here.

Why are they there. Are you competing with a major food source like a dumpster, wildlife feeder trash. If so that has to be eliminated or put in your trap. Little debbie oatmeal cookies maybe dipem in jameson's peaches and cream. Chum the outside of your traps and see if they eat that. Move back from where the customer has the problem and try their approach or departure areas to set your traps.
Cover the wire floor with a foot friendly surface like mulch, carpet, cardboard or what ever the surrounding surface is. I really like double doors with Kirk or Jim's walk through trip mechanisms.
Set up some trail cameras on video see their behaviors and time of arrival etc.
Then if all else fails be there at that time and shoot them or jump out with your pocket knife and stab them. Maybe a large frog gig?
Think of the answer not the problem.
I always tell my customers I am going to concede the animal is smarter than me so their won't be any need in pointing that out to me. I am going to get him with persistance and will be here after he is gone...unless they run me off.
I hate these kind of jobs you don't make money but at least you get paid to get educated.

I did a job last month where I got 8 coon in 4 days with live trap, then nothing for 3 days.. I set some dp's and picked up 5 more over the next 3 days. I tried to set the Dp in secluded places, so the customer couldn't watch the dispatches.

You can use catchpole and transfer them to a live trap and take them away for dispatch. Williams traps work well for such adventures.

Gotcha, the only way I'll set conis is if it's elevated and completely out of reach and then only for those hard headed coons that give my cages the bird. It gets personal at that point and I slap a coni over the hole in the roof and getter done.

What are the coon doing that you need to remove them? Tearing up the lawn, grubbing? Sometimes they need something visual in the cage to entice them more. I use white plastic golf balls with the holes in them and press some bacon grease in there. Best to wire them to back or let them dangle from top. Another tip to try is drag a cotton ball soaked in fish oil around the yard in figure 8 with trap placed in the center of the 8.
