Got to love tinkering. I was going to mod some Victor 4 dls, but have been watching them on ebay and they go for almost as much as new Sleepy Creeks.

How are you attaching the chains, since the D rings are gone?

They have adjustable pan tension.

I marked and cut the cross frame about 1/2 inch from the base plate, then I spaced the cross frame out almost 1 inch. It just happened that the cross frame was 1 inch wide, so I used the piece that I cut off of the cross frame end as filler.

Dale, I cut off the d rings so I could jig the cross frame. I really don't like that the swivel rivet won't allow the trap to set as flat as I would like. One of the things I like about the long springs is how easy it is to bed for exposed sets, and on rock with little or no bedding. I split a side link off a tire chain and used it, which allows the rivet to come out past the base plate and lay flat. It will allow the rivet to slide across and act much like a d ring, but allow the rivet to go out past the base plate for bedding.

These traps will be used for bobcats, we have mountain lion issues. Anything that can pop the jaws can have them.

I like your D-ring replacement, less problems with bedding than the stock D-ring.

I made a swinging D-ring for a wolf trap. Seems to be alright, but not wolf tested yet.

It swings off to the side when bedded. Kind of ugly welds on mine though.

Another option for a "lay flat" set up is an offset full baseplate with a JC Conner rod swivel
