I marked and cut the cross frame about 1/2 inch from the base plate, then I spaced the cross frame out almost 1 inch. It just happened that the cross frame was 1 inch wide, so I used the piece that I cut off of the cross frame end as filler.

Dale, I cut off the d rings so I could jig the cross frame. I really don't like that the swivel rivet won't allow the trap to set as flat as I would like. One of the things I like about the long springs is how easy it is to bed for exposed sets, and on rock with little or no bedding. I split a side link off a tire chain and used it, which allows the rivet to come out past the base plate and lay flat. It will allow the rivet to slide across and act much like a d ring, but allow the rivet to go out past the base plate for bedding.

Dale Torma trapper Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 3,561 Northern MN	I like your D-ring replacement, less problems with bedding than the stock D-ring. I made a swinging D-ring for a wolf trap. Seems to be alright, but not wolf tested yet. It swings off to the side when bedded. Kind of ugly welds on mine though.
