Whats the best way to put a new edge back on the sharp side of a fleshing knife or draw knife? Ive got that need edges redone, they are well past touch up sharpening.

I don't grind mine , I simply use the back of a skinning knife to roll the sharp edge back into place

use the back flat edge of a skinning knife ( I use the Chicago knife)

it works great and after you get the hang of it you can do it with just a quick swipe of the back edge.

try it , if done right it will make you a believer

HD, the knives are too outta shape for the knife trick. Thats why I said they were beyond touchup's.

Use a mill file followed by the same file wrapped with 220 grit sandpaper. Does a good job if you maintain the same angle.

Yep a file makes quick work of them. I used to spend hours with stones getting them like a great knife edge but found that a file makes them work just fine for fleshing.

steel flat file then stone til you get what you want.a vise for the knife is about imperative to success with a flat file, and use a fine one. I wouldn't use any power tools as more than likely you'll stress the steel. many diff. ways to get-er-done, good luck.

I use a small very fine diamond file, take a bit to get the rolled part off but after that a few swipes before you start each time keeps things good.

So my question is the same with using a "Necker" fleshing knife...I just got one and I LOVE it!!! But wil I ever have to resharpen it? If so, can I use these same techniques?!
