Hello All,

I have a Ford Transit fitted with a drop down ladder rack. The ladder rack is rated for a 28'ladder.

Well, I have turned down a lot of jobs because of the 28' ladder limit.

Suggestions?

No, I don't want to get a different vehicle.

Not a lot of options if you cant haul a longer ladder besides renting or buying a lift to use as needed if it will work. Or if you have second story roof areas you can use that platform for a second ladder put up if on a non gable area with a reasonable pitch.

Depending upon what has to be done if you have to do internal trapping and set up that helps in one area but so much repair work and exclusion mounting areas just has to be done from the exterior.

I have seen some have gone to rope rappelling but I don't fly like that, maybe if I was 40 years younger I might give it a try. But you still have to have a set up /secure attachment point to support your work so you will still have to get up there some how. Then you need to tool up and get some training to do that safely.

I still carry a 32' around with me,but the older I get , the more I don't feel like going that high on a ladder...planning on picking up a new 28 footer or something...If i need to get higher , then I will discuss with the customer about tacking in lift cost..down here in Mass. Your looking at a towable lift for around 250 a day

We have a 2010 and a 2013 Transit and they both carry 32 foot ladders. I'm sure 4 more feet won't make a difference but I wouldn't go

longer.

I can't imagine how the vehicle or rack "knows" the length of the ladder even if that's what it states as the rated limit. I bet you could better consider it a weight limit for the drop down system. I imagine a 28' fiberglass ladder, which per the rating ought to go on the rack by size, may weigh more than a 32' aluminum, and I'd just try putting one on there if it has the potential to gain you jobs.

Mike, carrying a 40 on a Transit Connect has got to look pretty cool. I drive a 2014 Connect and it's lower, longer, and has more

room than its predecessors. We should take delivery any day now on one of those light weight F150s that everyone is yelling about. If

there are any drawbacks we'll let everyone know.

I just bought a couple new Tundras, I like them much better than the F150 from the last couple years, BUT they are not good on gas 14.5! (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman),
The 150's get 17 loaded and will run til the wheels fall off, hope these tundra's will do the same...we have been running tacomas for 3 years and have great luck with them, Ive got 4 Tacomas, 4 F150's, 2 F-350's , 2 Tundras, 2 rangers and a connect. and I drive the connect, love that thing!

Tundra either. Of the eleven vehicles, three are pick-ups and the rest are vans. I will never be a fan of pick-ups, but then, I have

practically no sense of smell. I would have made a great garbageman.

you will get another 5 foot if you stand the ladder on top of the transit...

Not so out of line. I needed about a foot more to make it over the rain gutter. Opened the side door, put the ladder's feet on the

step and away I went. ( And no; this is not one of those many times that I fell )

P.S. Want to look really professional? Try putting a flying squirrel in a cage with one inch squares. Or you could carry water in a

sieve. They're both about the same.
