I never write about catching squirrels because after all these years I've gotten pretty proficient at it. I've got a bunch of grey

squirrels that are stuffing themselves with bird seed and sunflower seeds at an open storage facility that we trap. They have

literally tons of food at their disposal. I've got cages on their routes into the building but my meager offerings are like

hamburgers and the food inside that open shed is like lobster tails. As it gets colder, I know I will catch them but damage is

being done now. I think I need Joshua and about 800 yards of fencing.

Use that fancy air gun of yours?

The other was the squirrels at the chocolate factory......(that sucker looked funny,,,lol)

I can safely say that if you bait with peanut butter they wont be able to help themselves. I would dilute some smooth peanut butter down with a little vegetable oil and some peanut oil. Smear this liquid on the access to the peanut butter so theres plenty on. You want the squirrels to walk through it and leave a scent trail for the others. bait the second day, then trap the third. You'll have the whole troop of squirrels on that scent trail looking for the salty peanut butter,.
If i want to catch volume i always prebait this way and let the squirrels advertise the bait for you bu their feet..

Roe, I have never had to pre-bait before and I have actually caught squirrels before I could back down the ladder. But I realize that

extreme situations call for extreme measures. I will certainly keep your method in mind. I should tell you that I don't pull any

punches. Besides the squirrel paste, I am currently using Planter's creamy smooth peanut butter that comes with semi-sweet chocolate,

cherries, and cranberries. ( I am not making this up )

The more I study squirrels the more i find them amazing creatures. These days I find that the pre-bait works wonder, not just to catch that first couple, but to leave a peanut scented trail right to the trap. Has been effective for me, but maybe I got lucky? let us know your findings.

Okay, a Kiwi may be a fruit, or a flightless bird from New Zealand, or even the brand of shoe polish I used in the Army, but a fast Indian?

"Kiwi" = New Zealander. The "Indian" of the title was an Indian motorcycle. The guy was doing speed trials on this bike, all on his own and on a shoestring. Good flick.

It's been over a month now and I have used two-door cages, large two-door cages, regular cages, large plastic cages smeared with gobs

of peanut butter and I haven't had any of the 8 cages touched. But they still keep ripping open the bags of bird seed and sunflower

seed. I think they're just keeping in practice. They already have enough seed scattered throughout the building to keep them in

business until about 2017. I'm really getting tired of those grey squirrels flipping me the bird every time I check the cages. In the

meantime, in a week, I have caught nearly a dozen red squirrels at one of my regular customers, so I'm not exactly losing my touch.

Have you taken a picture to the animal psychic yet?

I was wondering what the heck Eaten was talking about and then I read the next post. That is hilarious but true. I am becoming a

wildlife psychic myself. I can tell what an animal is going to do before they know what they are going to do. This comes in really

handy when it comes to making doctor's appointments before I am even bitten. They have a picture of my rear end with and without the

fang marks. It's all very psychic.

How are they getting in the warehouse? Is there a way to take away access points or just a wide open building? I'd opt for pellet gun if not . I like the scent trail idea as well gonn add tht to my bag of tricks this fall

Wide open building. I know I will catch them later on in the fall but I'm supposed to be a professional and catch them now. I look

more like a protectionist on this job.

How about a 220 on a leaning 2x4/2x6? Use the 2" edge. Drill holes in a bottle cap and put onto trigger wires. Put PB and seeds in the cap.

Have you tried tube traps or coni cubbies

This is a Fleet & Farm store with customers driving back to the warehouses for pickups all day long. Any killer traps would be out of

the question. Besides, I don't believe that these squirrels are afraid of the cages anyway. Maybe too fat to fit in, but not afraid.

I feel your pain, Brother! I've trapped all kinds of critters in my lifetime and have gotten fairly proficient at it for the most part, but once in a while.... Every now and then.... There's this one particular group of squirrels!

When it comes to tree rats, I do a lot of positives sets with 110's. It's not the prettiest picture in the book but it gets the job done.
