I made one from 1/4 inch rod . Bend it to form a handle on one end and meaure the length you want and bend it to put a hook on the other end . I can make this setter in 10 mins . Very cheap and works fine . Light weight to carry on the trap line . Fits all conibears . I just use on the 220 ,280 ,and the 330's
Keep it simple and If it aint broke don't fix it

Either way you go, at least LEARN the rope method and keep a rope in your pocket.
The rope can be used one handed. If you ever get caught, you can get yourself out. There was a guy up in alaska couple of years ago I believe that got caught in one by one arm and couldn't reach the setters on his snowmobile.........
And ALWAYS use safeties.
My holding pen is flat....And made of basswood....

I agree on the safety rope-even with some of the smaller traps... 1 arm caught 5' up in a tree sounds funny but squirrelling your foot for the setters in your trap basket in a snowstorm wiped my humor quick-I had been told by a trapper to always carry that and a couple ice picks on a rope when on ice trapping beaver. I ignored both once-not any more!
*Great idea with the loop of cable to hold the setters closed-with strong 330's its a juggle flipping safeties and holding it all together.
*edit-and use a safety even w/traps smaller than 330's

It's funny how people like different things. I purchased a scissor type setter last year, bent the arms after about 3 uses, cut them apart for scrap, and went back to using rope. Couldn't be much easier than using the rope method, so I don't know why I even tried. Discussions like this I guess.
Nowadays it just don't pay to be a good 'ol boy.

This is a close up of Hunter's setters. I bought a pair of these last year from a dealer in Maine. They are heavy duty, well designed and have a locking mechanism. I used a rope for 30+ years until age and arthritis teamed up. Jonathan
