I need a metal detector. Anybody on here use one to find mole traps? Set up a mole job last week, and the next day, the mowers mowed off some of my flags! So, I replaced the flags with taller surveyor flags. They mowed them off today! Something about blaze orange that they don't see! Morons! Next check will get 3 foot fiberglass stakes with the orange flags taped to the tops!

I feel your pain, though very few jobs I've done for pocket gophers, one owner brings in his local mower to bush hog his property pretty much as soon as I set up gear...

Luckily with gophers the same runs and hole areas seem to get opened up every time new ones come along so you can use that to find the gear! Metal detector sounds smart!

I would trade in the fiberglass for rebar. Seeing pieces of lawn mower blade near your mole sets would be a good clue.

Good investment in locating metal objects like mole traps etc.

I have had two detectors in my lifetime. First one I bought many years ago to find arrows when I was doing a lot of bow hunting and shooting. Buggers would slide under the grass slicker then all get out and near impossible to find at times. I fixed that problem with buying a White model detector.

That old model eventually went bad over 35 years or so. Got a new one a couple of years ago at a Dicks sporting goods store when it was on sale. Great for finding coyote traps under snow when its time to pull them or an over night snow makes things look a lot different then the day prior in locating traps.

I bought one for just that purpose and I have recovered many gopher and mole traps with it.
It's called the bounty hunter, they are cheap but really do the job.
Now when I fill out my customer info form I ask what the mowing schedule is.

That is the first thing I ask the customer after selling a mole job. Do you do your own mowing or do you have your mowing done by a lawn care service or other private individual.

Tell you what, when I got my son a detector and a pin pointer, never thought id use it for work.
That pin pointer rides with me now. Saved me a few times.

Okay Nic, you got me. Please tell me what a pin pointer is before my son makes me order one.

Its a mini metal detector that you use in the dug hole to find the piece that your bigger detector initially struck on

So if you have a general idea where your traps were buried you can scan it over the area to pin point better where it is
