A potential customer called and wanted us to find out which wall in her house her ball python is crawling around in. My first

thought was that a snake is too cool for it to be picked up on infra-red. Am I right or wrong as usual?

I think it would be the same temperature unless it crawled from someplace that's a different temperature and still reflects that.

Wink, I so should have bet money that would be your response, I was laughing for a good 5 minutes thinking either someone is going to say are you reading winks grocery list or that you yourself would nail it!

Lol!!

I agree with eaten that likely it wouldn't show, however the typical factors apply, thickness of wall, insulation, is the flir tuned to a certain spectrum that may aid I revealing it. Because they tend to mimic the ambient environment it would depend on their temp, how long they've been in the ambient temp, etc...

Would much rather gamble on a warm blooded mammal detection than a snake...

We just had a Ball Python found after it took a couple months "walkabout." Hope he enjoyed it.

I think there would be some difference and the infared may show something if very little. Also if the snake has eaten anything, there may be some heat associated with digestion or decomposition. I say give it a try. I also think this would be a good experiement for someone who has the time and resources to find out for sure and report back to everyone. I would love to do it, but sadly can not afford the tools and snake to do it with.

I don't know, but isn't it great to have a backup plan?
