What do you all think of the plastic traps on the market?

the trerex type are ok,,,,the Other ones that are cut out suck,,,,The do not sit stable.......

Give me the standard victor or a Sherman or a lt1

No the entire trap is plastic base,
They make those tradition victor mouse and rat traps now with a plastic base instead of wood

Vinke's right about the Trapper T-Rex from Bell labs. Just don't dry fire them. They're about $4.20 apiece.

I like the ones from albia, ia....they work very well although i use em all season they usually need replaced each year...i kill alot of voles in em...buy em by the case

Love them, especially with the bait cup that goes thru a hole in the pan, nearly impossible to miss. Only thing is they ain't built to last, the trigger/pan catch breaks off and then that trap is useless.

Haven't used the T-Rex so can't comment on them but have used the Victor Power Rat traps, with little to no success. Lots of empty bait pockets and licked clean pans without tripping traps. Not a fan of the trigger mechanism at all, I'm sure they could be modified but for the price of one of those traps you could buy two vprt's. Haven't found any rat traps that could produce the results as the wood based Victor traps, price wise as well. Think they'd be better served as targets on a shooting range. IMO

The T-Rex fit perfectly inside the Protecto bait stations. This allows us to safely trap rat sized animals in areas where we might

otherwise not set traps because of kids and pets. Normally we use the regular Victor rat traps with either sized trigger. ( Not

because they're the best traps, but because we're cheap )

Had some fox squirrels chew through the protectas to get the bait i was using for chipmunks

Joshua, that's really interesting. We had nearly a half dozen of the new EVOs badly chewed. I was worried that this could be a

problem but we haven't had a single one chewed in months now. I'm trying to figure out if it's certain types of bait or just certain

squirrels. The least amount of chewing for us is on the Protectas. If any of you guys that are reading this have any input, I sure

would appreciate it.

P.S. We have Fox squirrels but they never mess with houses. They're strictly woods animals. In 27 years we have caught exactly one

and he was a mistake. I have often wondered why our Fox squirrels never get in trouble and some of you guys have to deal with them

constantly.

Plastic is only getting rid of more loggers

I paint my wooden victors to help them last longer. I live in a humid climate.

That sounds intelligent; any particular colors? Different colors for rodents and woodpeckers?

Had decent luck with the Trex/Tomcat style plastics with the hole through the pan and the bait trough. Only thing that bugs me is when using PB or similar that it can clog the fall of the pan some.

I told you not to dry fire it. They are such a good trap that we need to tell Bell Labs to beef them up a little bit. Do any of you

have that happen to the Tomcats? I'm sure they're the same trap.

I just sent an Email to Sara at Bell Labs to let her know about the T-Rex traps breaking. I'll let you know what happens. If you guys

have any problems with anything else, let me know. I find them quite responsive to any questions. Of course we spend an arm and a leg

there, so that helps.
