roger surely is missed,I have been setting up next to him and Dick Mertha for the last 10 years or so at the NYSTA convention in Herkimer. He always brought a few great traps with him. Always had a rare killer to show me,even if I couldn't buy it.He was full of knowledge and was willing to share it. I have several traps in my collection that came from him. RIP

I don't have as much knowledge of old traps as many of the posters here but to me I can't see the much usefulness in that clutch. If a critter pulls out I guess it's 50-50 It won't be breeding. laugh

how does the trap work? I don't see any point in the brackets. the temples hold the leg. how does the animal's body get into the bracket?

The clutch traps were made for Otter, to set in the slide. Supposed to be a body gripping trap, not very effective I don't think.

I don't mean to pick on your trap, I am just telling what I see. I have not seen a Sargent clutch trap in person but I am skeptical of them. I am quite failure with Newhouse clutches. These clutches look to be a copy of the Newhouse clutches but they are not exactly the same and I don't believe that the jaw post is factory quality. The jaw post does not look to be cast like the other Sargent and Newhouse jaw posts, it has been cut out from a piece of steel. The jaw post is also narrow, the jaws and clutch ends stick out on both sides , the rivets also do not look factory. The clutches also look to have been cut out, the Newhouse clutches were stamped out. It is a neat trap, just always be watchful. With the prices of some of these traps, there are a few people out there that make fakes and sell them to unsuspecting collectors. Don't get me wrong, I hope that it is 100% original, I just hate to see anyone get ripped off.

These clutch traps were made for Otter, The trap is set in a slide and the clutches were supposed to grip the body. I don't think that they were very practical.
