I remember buying them new in the 1970s and 1980s. Not sure how much before that they were made. A search through some old trapping supply catalogs should answer that question.

Several years ago I sold a jump trap setter that had been made by Oneida Community and had standing bears(1911-25) so they were made that long ago for sure.

Checked several catalogs from the period 1920-22. All listed setters for both long spring and jump traps at about 20 cents each. All used drawings so not actual photos but several were marked Oneida Community so they were making the setters long before the name was changed to ATC.

Oneida Community's first jump trap setter was a "C" shaped, screw clamp advertised in their 1907 catalog. This did not stay on the market long. In 1908 O.C. patented the lever type jump trap setter, some of which were marked with standing bears around 1913. In 1928 Sears advertised the Jiffy trap setter as the "Victor improved trap setter" this setter is for long spring traps. In 1929 F.C. Taylor advertised the same setter as the "Jiffy" trap setter. In 1925 Oneida Community sold out it's trap business to "Animal Trap Comp. of America", I do not believe that Oneida Community ever made the Jiffy trap setter, only A.T.C.

snakecollector. What you are saying is that the name "Jiffy" was only applied sometime after ATC purchased the Oneida Community's trap business, rather than that the setter itself was not made until after that time, correct? And that the jump trap setters that I referred to in several posts were then never actually named "Jiffy". also correct?

cohunt,
The jump trap setter was never called "Jiffy trap setter". The Jiffy trap setter is a different setter and was made for long spring traps. This setter was not made before 1925, so it was only made by ATC. You can see in PaulB's photos above, they are two different setters.
