I need your help to identify this trap. It has cast pan that I can't see any markings on. The pan has some pitting but I would think I should be able to see some markings. The stamping was either real light or it was smooth to start with. The spring has a real small hole on the bottom so the pin just fits through it. The spring has a pretty sharp angle on the end compared to most longsprings and is still very strong and I see no markings on the spring. The jaws flare out wide just above the spring and then get very narrow again. Hope the pictures help.

Thanks guys! It doesn't really fit in with what I collect but the cast 8 chain is cool enough that I may have to hang it up anyway.

The chain is probably worth more than the trap, if it is in nice shape, but again, that's my opinion.

How would the chain be used by itself? Replacement on a more expensive trap? Or, are you saying the chain is the valuable part of the whole thing?

If I recall slick pan paw might have a very fine 1stamped on pan near shank

I can see the resemblance on the frame and jaws. So yours would be the Peck Smith Manufacturing (P.S. MFG 1860's) and mine the Peck, Stow, & Wilcox (P.S.&W. Co 1860-70's)?

I sure like that safety pin chain too.
