I've caught a few in the past in my regular wire cage traps but was looking at getting a couple enclosed traps to reduce the hassle. This is for personal use and usually have to deal with them on my way to my office job so was looking at getting a couple enclosed traps. Looking at the WCS website they have two PVC pipe traps: Odorless Skunk Trap and Spray Proof Skunk Trap. They look similar and are close in price so anyone have experience if one is better than the other? Another option is the Dura-poly plastic square trap - is it worth the extra money?

I mentioned that these are currently for personal use but in the long term I plan to do part time ADC when I retire.

Thanks!

I bought the #6 Tuff Trap from the snareshop. I have not used it, but it is very well made. Can't wait to try it!

For what my info is worth: The 6 in tube trap is too small. It will well on small females and young of the year. But big males will not go in that small of a trap. I make my own using the same design only using a 8 in, tube. Be aware that there is no such thing as a spray proof trap. A skunk does not have to raise its tail to spray. They work because most of the time, a skunk will only spray what it can see. What I have found after 25 years doing ADC work.

Thanks for the info guys. Those AAC traps look tough and I didn't know they existed.

I remember when the skunk got out of the PVC trap in the back of the truck.... When I saw the end pushed up, it was an oh chit moment. Lol

Poly square for sure. I fought not buying them, then was glad to see they worked so well. More so than any open box traps.

Most of you guys are a long way from me geographically, but though I occassionally use one for xfer use, I have 30+ brand new poly catch I bought from WCS
when I started our company 7 years ago. They've been stored indoors in our warehouse, just collecting dust....

Not because I don't like them, just didn't end up doing any skunk trapping as a business model.

Would make someone a good deal to move them....

Justin

I much prefer the larger poly over the smaller one for catching skunks in it. The positive benefit is you can use the same trap for raccoons after, so you have one trap that does both. Add a few holes in it for better ventilation and you are good to go.

Agree that the larger Dura Poly trap is versatile besides minimizing/containing critter waste (roofs, garages, sheds, carports, etc.)!

Like gibb, I too prefer the larger Plasti-trap. I purchased four of them many years ago and they are still in excellent shape. I like them especially for skunks and raccoons. I have set them inside attics and on rooftops for raccoons and experienced no damage to roofs onside attics. They keep skunks out of sight and easily transported. The ones I have are a little different from those currently available. I use them in attics and rooftops for raccoons and have experienced no damage to shingles or inside attics.

Front of trap.

Back of trap. These came with the 6" hole in the back. The hole was covered with 1' X 1' weld wire. I recovered it with 1" X 1/2" weld wire to prevent raccoons from reaching through. The screen over the rear opening can easily be removed for transfer or release of the animal.

Traps set on roof. Three raccoons were in the traps the next morning.. Another four or five were caught during the next week.

Combination of Plasti-trap and cage traps.

Skunks like to fill cage traps with anything that they can reach.

Releasing skunk.

Best of success. Catch'em all.cool

Ron - as you can see, I followed your advice and tweaked the back end of my Dura Poly traps for the reasons you've outlined.

I appreciate you sharing your tips and techniques! Thank You!
