Someone explain this to me.
Over the years I’ve collected data on bobcats and how many days after setting I am catching them.
Is anyone else experiencing bobcats within the first 96 hours to be most common, and then typically it’s a 10-14 day wait until the next one?
All I can think of is that I am either catching one that lived there, or just so perfectly timing it that I catch it within the first 2 checks, and then subsequently they are just making a traveling loop and I am catching non-resident bobcats.
I’m not a bobcat so I really don’t know, and I don’t imagine any of you are bobcats either. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same experiences.

Have you tracked this as far as male and females? Good question. I'd like to know this as well. Maybe you're catching the resident females first and then the traveling toms later? I haven't kept track like you have been doing. Course I haven't caught the numbers nor been consistent about when in the year I trap to be able to see patterns.
Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

I would think terrain, population and food source play a part in it .
Simplify your methods to the point of perfection.

i find each cat is different but normal loop here in my area is 5-10 days apart, the one cat im set up on now comes threw every wednesday-friday. yet to connect on him as hes learned how to steal bait from the backs of sets but i jumped him off the bait yesterday and he came back last night to steal the rest from all 3 cubbies . other cats ive caught one in a set only to catch another one 3 days later. also find they cover more ground before a big front moves threw looking for easy food

I find them very consistent here. It's usually 2 days to 2 months,if you don't count the ones that never come back. Hah! Sounds like some women I've known...

Here in my area cats tend to stay in a prey rich, 3-5 acre area for a few days and move on the the next, knowing what direction the move is key to getting in front of them. Most of the loops here are 2-3 weeks. Same experience I have here ...I have found tracks one day, set it catch the next day. More then once ,

Alright so it seems like most people are having similar experiences.
The reason I bring this up is to see when it’s time to pull sets. It seems that if I put a set in, a good majority of the time the first check has a bobcat in it, and then the waiting game occurs. From what I gather here if you don’t have another cat in a month then it’s time to pull, which is right around what my data suggests.
The sex hasn’t seemed to matter. Seems right around split from what I can tell.
Setting another 5-6 spots this week after finals and I will update on locations and how many cats happen (if any).

I put a set in on Wed evening and caught a nice female Thursday, then missed one Friday and caught a 30lb tom on Saturday. Went back Sunday and had fresh tracks in the snow where one came in and investigated my set but didn't commit. And haven't had any action the last 2 checks. Going to leave it out for a bit and I'll keep u updated I had the mistaken notion bobcat trapping was going to be a slam dunk deal after having so many on camera and reading of how easy they were to catch. Wrong! They've been giving me fits. It's the only animal I'm really targeting and I've come up empty thus far with about two weeks of the season left to go. I bought what was claimed to be "The Best" bobcat lure there ever was. Maybe where that guy is but it's not where this guy is. I also understand that state has around 300,000 cats, my state doesn't seem to have a clue how many roam here. Not enough!

Yes,they may not have canine wariness but there erratic movements and finicky nature can make them frustrating to trap.Be patient, block them in well, set as close to where they will step as possible and keep the sets visible.I'll say it again,be patient. The cats will decide when they will be caught, not you. There is no magic lure. Some may be better than others but I think set location and presentation are more important. In big woods where you are, locations might not be as narrowed down and defined as some Western terrain. If they are randomly hunting through the brush, they won't follow the exact same line of travel every time.A skunky,LDC might help in some locations.
