Just skinned a fox and want to put it up as soon as possible. I washed the blood off and then wrung out all of the water. Wiped it down, combed it. Now the fur is a little damp is all. Can I flesh her and then put her on the stretcher yet tonight? And when I turn it, I'll wipe it and get it dried completely. Can I do this or will it cause it to slip in the longrun?

PS...What kind of bug lives on the fox that is long and skinny, Dark Brown or Black. Its about 1/2 centimeter long or smaller. They were in the croth area on both fox...

Thanks,
Kyle Moses

Bugs are probably fleas. Do you have a leaf blower or a squirrel cage fan? It wouldn't take long to dry quickly. Never put a rat up damp because it will mat and won't come out. Can't tell you about fox.

I hang my furs up with a fan blowing on them it don't take long to dry, specially if it is just damp.I also dry them down as much as possible with towel's.

For coon, I grab them by the nose and whip 'em, then do it again from the base of the tail. You're gonna get wet. Then I comb quickly, and hang in front of a fan. They're usually dry after a cup of coffee.

I know how to dry them thats not a problem. My concern was if I put the fox on the stretcher with damp fur, would it be alright? It doesn't matter anymore, its dry now.

I never put any fur on a stretcher damp. Too much risk of slipping and fur matting. Did you turn it already?

Haven't put it on the stretcher at all. Its still in front of the fan. After the food settles in me, I'm gonna do a little fleshing.
