I set some cat food baited DP's on one property for coon. I pulled up Christmas morning after the snow and went to dig them out of the snow. I pulled one up to find a eaten shoulder blade and furred shin from a red fox sticking out of the DP. No other remains found. Those coyotes got to him before me and left me nothing. So guess who just gang set that whole property ? For one catching a fox in a DP was unexpected, but having coyotes do that in such short time was new to me. Anyone else have this kind of thing happen ? I doubt much could be done to prevent it, I check traps every 24 at 8 am every day, Just thought I'd share.

In cold crappy weather I've had at least two small female coyotes killed and half eaten by another coyote. Last time I saw it was years ago but not much you can do to prevent that.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Caught a fox in a remake from a fox catch the day before, she was killed by a coyote but not eaten at all. This was three seasons ago, I caught several fox on that farm (not many around where I trap) that was the only female fox caught that season

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

I think it is the pack mentality thing. Over the last few years I've been releasing fox that have no damage. Noticed by the tracks that if a single coyote comes up on a trapped fox, it will just kill it and leave it lay or sometimes not even bother it. But if there are two or more coyotes, things usually get worse for the fox.

Well my dog found the fox. It was about 100 feet from the trap laying in the corn field cover in snow, frozen solid. Looks to be in good shape minus the missing leg. Will know more once it thaws. You think it will sell put up with a sewn up hole where the leg was ?

If that is all that is wrong with it then yes. They don't need or use the leg.
