Picked up a scraper today and sharpened it and rounded the corners and have the beaver boarded and outside the temp should hit about -15 again so will give it a try in the morning and see how it goes

Am I reading that right, -25°C?

That's only -13° F.

I'd have to time it right. Lol

-13 isn't unheard of here. But it isn't exactly common either.

That is why I frost scrape the fall caught beaver. I would have to put every thing caught in the spring in a freezer for months just to have a chance to frost scrape.

Lots of ways to do things, and not everyone has a heated shop to work in. Kind of childish to tell someone only a fool would frostscrape, especially when the end product turns out the way Boco's does. Anyone who has any experience in this game only needs one look at Bocos fur to see it's first class all the way. If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch...

Supposed to get to -15 again this weekend. How clean should the hide be? I still have a few chunks of meat on mine. Seems like you'd want the meat off at least...

I haven't done it but watching the frost scraping videos that have been posted some meat left on does not seem to hinder much.

Frost scraped mine this morning and it worked great except were i left to much meat. The thicker areas of meat where froze to hard to scrape.the next time i do this i will do a better job cleaning the meat from the hide.

I usually have perfect conditions for it but choose not to because cleanup would have to be immaculate so as not to attract bears to the cabin in the off season. Clean skin works for me.

And your beer won't freeze while your working. Last thing I want to do after trapping all day in -20 is play with my beaver outside. crazy

You will be waiting a long time. No reason to trap and put up $10.00 beaver.

I'd rather trap and put up $10.00 coyotes. LOL

$10 beaver?? Beaver are one of the easiest furs to market yourself, and worth a lot more than $10.

Boco, I tried this this past weekend and the belly and tail end of the hide scraped nicely. When I got to the back I had a heck of a time. I'm thinking that I the hide should have been cleaner as there was a thin layer of meat like the saddle that seemed very hard and tough to get thru with the scraper. Any thoughts on this?

Why fix it when you can struggle?
