The place with 2 snares above^ caught a lynx double but both were eaten. We had a big snow fall and wind last week so the trapline was pretty messy. Spent the majority of the weekend just breaking trails and resetting a few of the #3s. I made a priority of getting more 120s out on Saturday though in a new area that I had 11 120s set. When I went to check the 11 I picked up 7 marten and couldn't find one set. The land is completely different looking, some willows and branches with flagging tape were fallen, and there's as much as 4-5 feet of new powder in some places. I was thinking hard of the spot I was missing as I prebaited 10 more boxes at the cabin. When I returned to set them I seen a broken willow where I was figuring the set was and sure enough it was there with a big marten hanging. My traps are set a short walk up the banks from the lakes and creeks so the boxes are not always easily visible from the trail. I also had another monster size male freshly caught. Got a few lynx mink and Fox too. Lots of drifts now so no more hundred miles an hour between sets. Stepped off my Skidoo into powder snow to my armpits in one long skinny lake. Fought with slush, wet clothes, and willows hanging in the Portages all weekend. Got hung up once in slush but luckily not too bad, other than that my Skidoo is a beast for the nasty conditions out there. I had it completely buried at least twice but she just kept pulling. I'm hoping the new line and the handful of reset traps make my next trip!

Wide open throttle over new snow and smelling lake water was common. The place I got hung up was in a narrow section of a lake. I spotted water soaking through the snow a few hundred yards ahead and way too much water behind that so i slowed down in time where the water was just a couple inches deep and turned my Boggan around by hand. Then I had my adrenaline fix turning around at the far end of the lake just to bust up the snow and water so it could freeze quicker. Next trip is all about getting everything reset and freshened up.

Sounds like you're having a good winter Ryan. We finally got some snow too. I've been stuck at home since Christmas trying to get a bunch of marketing stuff done. Back to the bush soon though. We have lots of lynx this year too. Hope everything freezes up good for you! I hate that water smell!!

my Grandma Esther Florence McLeod passed away last weekend. Its been a tough couple days for the family. She was a hunter, trapper, fisher and a home run hitter in the inuvik women’s fastball league of days gone by. She loved watching my YouTube videos and one of the last things she ever told me was that she was proud of everything I do on the land and that I should always keep it up. I told her that I’ll keep it up as long as my body allows me to. When Morgan was born we were looking for a name and my grandma was suggesting Esther Florence every chance she got. Same with Charlotte. Grandma wanted her to be named Esther Florence. If I didn’t name my son after grandmas late husband, my grandpa bobby, then I’m sure she would’ve suggested Esther Florence for my boy too.

Auntie lulu, Grandma, Aga Sarah and auntie Rhoda are all gone now. Lulu, Granddma and Aga have all passed in the last year. Rhoda passed a few years back. This picture was taken at Morgan's first birthday party. I'd imagine the 4 of them could've put up 200 rats in just under an hour.

Sorry that your Grandma has passed away, Ryan. Sure sounds like a life well lived!

Anybody like seeing marten hanging?

Good eye Boco. 16 of each right there. I skin and dry all marten right away and thaw lynx for skinning in manageable numbers. I'd sure like to save it all for a year end picture but I'm not trapping for fun and bills won't wait. Got about 40 more lynx before I'm caught up. There is a lot more lynx than marten in my neck of the woods.

All my lynx so far have been average condition. No obese or skinny ones.

Awesome! Switched my smith and wesson ar sport 2 to a free floating hand guard. Going to order a 18" or 20" 223 wylde barrel sometime and swop out the barrel. Starting to see lots of rabbit tracks and lynx tracks, caught a rabbit with an axe this weekend.
