Before I set out on my next project, I thought I'd seek a little advise. A close friend has a pretty good size farm near me. Roughly about 200 acres mostly pasture w/ about 75 head of cows. He has a huge barn in the middle of the property. He stores his big "round bails" of peanut hay under the barn. The coons are getting into his hay bails looking for the peanuts. He has the bails stacked about 4 or 5 high. I went up there and looked it over and my 1st impression is setting up my 160's on stands up on the bails where they are doing their damage. I also wanted to set up some DP's and 1.5's around the bottom rolls of hay but ground is too hard. He had several loads of clay hauled in before he built his barn and it is set up hard as concrete and you cant drive a nail in the ground! From the hay bails its probably 25 or 30 feet to the support beams around the edge of the barn, so I cant run that much cable or chain to each trap. This is a lil out of my element. I am usually setting a trap near a cypress tree or on the edge of some bayou etc. I can probably trial and error this thing till I figure it out, but I know some of you farm boys from up north can shed a lil light on this situation and help an old trapper out. thx again for all your past input.

Doing a similar job right now much smaller op. and our weather is colder.
Scout the outside of the building looking for sign then circle out say 50 yards scouting then move farther find where the coon are coming from. Dps can be anchored with cinder blocks or other heavy objects cable them off.

Good idea, thanks. I failed to mention the barn is open, no sides. It is a very large barn w/ hay in the middle. He keeps 2 big tractors and all his equipment underneath also. There is a couple fence rows that come near the barn on the back side. Also about 200 yards down the hill from barn is a big branch bottom. You think I would be better off to put most of my traps down in the bottom?

I see several dens in old bales. Have a farmer that grinds his hay and the pile is about 30 foot in the air. You can see several holes in the middle and top of the pile.Be a fun day for a kid and a coon call.

I suspect they are not only foraging for food in the bales but are also using them to den up.
