I have always loved catching those sneaky reds, perhaps more so than a stinky coyote!

For those that regularly catch reds do you see any grey fox in your area? I have both but am starting to see fewer greys. Used to catch a grey every now and then. 67 reds so far and zero greys. Don't know what happened to them.

I don't understand you guys catching reds and hoping for yotes. Sounds nuts to me. Take the reds and be very, very happy for what you have. They are worth a lot more money and are far easier to put up. When the yote population gets to where you are catching them regularly, there won't be many reds around anymore. Say what?? Fox are worth $10-$15 right now and coyotes are hitting $125. Even your crappy coyotes will bring you $50. Fox are easier to put up, but not worth more.

For those that regularly catch reds do you see any grey fox in your area? I have both but am starting to see fewer greys. I am right up the road from you and have seen less and less greys. Caught 17 one year, but 2 or 3 a year last 10 years or so. Lot less coons too, but what I think was distemper hit them pretty hard. OK with that, prices being what they are. Few coyotes around, know of a handful of guys who caught their firsts this year.

I can count on one hand the amount of reds that I've seen that nice in Maryland. Awesome catch! Out of the last 50 fox I've caught only one was a grey, but I'm also setting dirtholes in open fields so it may be fairly selective. I really wish I'd have a few more greys around.
As far as coyotes, they're on their way to your area. Just trap fox like normal and you'll catch a coyote once they're around.
If you really want to catch one just ride up here for a week or so. Plenty to go around. I'm in your area often as my FIL retired at PAX and lives in Great Mills. Let me know if you ever want to run a few traps together!
