I was talking to an old time trapper today and he said the full moon has a big negative effect on trapping. He had to leave before I could ask why. Do you share his feeling and why does it affect animal travel?

I thought there was but couldn't find it using the search button. Found it on my second search, but my question is why does it have an effect on foothold traps. I understand they could see snares better with a full moon, but that doesn't explain why it would affect foothold traps.

The full moon has a huge affect on trapping furbearers in my humble opinion.
However it has little to do with the furbearers, but more to do with the superstitions of the trappers who believe that furbearers don't need to forage for food because the moon is full.

I sure do like fishing for walleyes at night during a full moon....winter, spring, summer or fall.

I googled but didn't find anything scientific about the full moon altering furbearer foraging behavior.
I did find a great article on how important that it is for North Carolina natives to avoid smiling while looking at a writin' spider. Because if they see your teeth, you'll die. (I did not look into whether it was scientifically proven, but it was on Google so...)

My best checks have ALWAYS been best on the dark moon phase. They most defiantly move further on the dark moon. I've witnessed this for years in snow. I really don't know why, but my theory is its to much light for em to feel secure. Seems i do better in cover and timber when the moon is full for predators. Ive always had more commit to sets on the dark moon verses full.

Common sense catches alot of fur..
Pay homage to all you harvest..

Ive always heard that full moons have negative effects becasue the animals can't stay hidden as easily, they dont like being seen. Thats just my gramps used to say anyway
