Two years ago I caught this big fella....
He was big. 43lbs. Missing every toe on his back right foot and had only one toe on his front right foot

I just finished his skull and it shows he's been around a while, some of the damage may be from biting my trap, but where teeth are missing and filled with bone is not from that

Also note the hole on the right side of his upper jaw.

Here is his skull next to a 32lbs male I caught the same year

This skull is a trophy to me, and wI plan to mount it on a piece of driftwood so I can hang it on the wall

Just wanted to share

Think the hole is from a shot or a fight?

That's a great trophy.I believe most of that is honest wear, not from the trap.

Taxi. , yep I've done enough skulls and seen trap damage to teeth that I believe his is mostly from age

Hoosier71. I have beetles then soak in volume 40 peroxide

Does this mean that life in the wild is rough?

I thought all the little critters sang and held hands.

wink

My sister-in-law has a large collection of bones and skulls, all that show signs of injury, disease or defects of some sort. Really interesting to see what some animals can cope with and survive!

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

That's going to look good on the wall. Amazing difference in sizes.

Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

Bring them up anytime this summer when the beetles are more active

I've soaked some in water (not heated) now I only do it to get teeth, as they tend to fall out of the ones I soak in water quite easily
