Will a tail puller work on a wolf or am I just a weekling? I had to cut 3/4 of the way before it would pull. I have one of the three hole aluminum pullers that work fine on everything else.

They are tough.I skin them down a bit, then cut the tailbone off the carcass. After skinning out the wolf,I put the tailbone stub(about 4 inches) in the vice and use the tailpuller to strip the fur.

I will try that on the next one. Thanks

I usually split it and skin it out half way down before pulling on it.

Yep I split and skin mine down a ways too. But try this. Rather than pulling with a tail puller..... hold the puller stationary and pull on the tail bone. Makes a difference for me

I skin them down about halfway and place the bone over my pointer finger, under my middle finger, and over my third finger. Make a fist , grasp the base of the tail with my other hand and pull until it pops off. I tried tail pullers but found this was easier for me. Coyotes I just skin enough to get my fingers in and pop them off then split. Just another way not the best or easiest for everyone.

I never had much trouble with coyotes using a tail puller. I think the vise idea is what I will try next time. I would be able to use both hands on the puller instead of one on the puller and one on the base of the tail.

I usually just skin and pull all the way down for the wolves and wolverines.

It helps to skin the body down a little ways past the tail (6 or 8 inches) to give you some slack for pulling the tail bone out. Then I have to skin the tail down to where it's about 3/8 inch diameter before I can pull the rest of it, on both wolves and wolverine. I make my own pullers by drilling a hole in a stick and then the splitting the stick. My hands are not as strong as Nooksacks. !!

I cut the tailbone off at the carcass. Skin enough to put the stub in a snare hanging from the ceiling then wrap a paper towel tight to the bone and pull. Thin rope works good too when wrapped around the bone in a noose or hitch. Some tough tails I'll split further than normal.

Now that is a great plan!

I'd always split and skin a ways, then cut the tail off close to the body. I'd finish skinning and then put the tail bone in a cable noose hanging from the ceiling and use the tail puller. That way you can use your weight instead of muscle.
