Scandic 2002, 440 LT.

Lately I've noticed that when I turn on the handle bar warmers that they get real hot, don't seem to want to shut off, and melted one of the rubber grips, and at the same time I have a headlight that went out. I don't know if the two are related though. It's like I have a voltage regulator of some kind on the blink. As far as the grip heat not wanting to shut off, I'm not sure if it got so hot I felt it for a while or if there is some problem with the switch too. I quit turning on the handle bar switch and went to a heavier mitt. Havent gotten a new headlight bulb yet either, maybe should get two, just in case one burns out real quick.

Does anyone have some input that could shed light on this ?

My 02 tundra did about the same thing last winter. Replaced that little square voltage regulator and no more burnt out headlights.... Easy fix...

Yea what Digger said. My Bearcat did the exact same thing, burned handle bar warmers and blown headlights. Just got the voltage regulator in the mail last week.

yup and don't delay I had one go on me and the hand warmers totaly melted the grips. The end result was I ruined a nice pair of otter mitts I had that were the first pr my wife made she has made several hundred pairs since so it was a disappointing day

Had my Polaris WT burn out the voltage regulator out on the line and lost all the lights and hand warmers too. Dang those hand warmers got hot before turning to a sticky goo in my hand. Turned around and spent an extra night to go out in the daylight. Always carried an extra one under the seat after that along with an extra headlight bulb.

So far I have found the part for this model to be obsolete. I am exhausting one dealership after another looking for old stock.

Search eBay, gobs of aftermarket ones for sale.
When mine went out I bought one off of eBay.

If they are cheep on E-Bay order a couple. Probably lots of people looking to sell there burnt out voltage regulators on E-Bay.

These guys are out of Hibbing, MN. They have hundreds of used snowmobiles and thousands of used parts. They ship stuff out, give them a try. Very smart people, they know pretty much anything you need to know about sleds. I've bought used parts from them a few times but never had anything shipped.

I found one in Alberta at a dealership. The fella told me I may have found the last on in stock in existence .
