Thanks! So what would be the advantage of using a 5 gallon bucket over milk crates or visa-versa

I think the advantage is having a deeper hole to keep the bait away from the critter. I also think that elevating sets, like snare poles and elevated buckets, do better than ground sets. The animal has to go up or climb to get the bait. Wolverine are not known for passing up relatively easy meals.
Hopefully paper, or family trapper, or someone, has a pic or 2 of pipers elevated bucket.

Here is a pic of what I was talking about. I tried those wood ones and these, the barker coni pans, both slip on to the trigger wires. They were ok the first year, but after transport and bending the pan to where I wanted it the dang triggers wires began to break and nothing bites more then setting up and having to stop and go back for another trap. I forget who it was that posted a pic of it but they had welded the pan directly to the catch. I talked to akcowboy and he welded up two dozen of them for me 3 years ago and I have had no issues with them at all. The one in the pic he used a barkers coni pan, and spot welded it on. The others he used sheet metal.

You can adjust the pan up that when a critter goes in he pushes the pan down. Works pretty good for me on mink, ermine and marten. Leaves an opening for them to squeeze through vs hitting the trigger wires. I have about a dozen 220' with the same set up.

Well, some happy days on the trapline since my last update. The week before I finally got the tundra R out to the cabin and put back together. It was quite a trick getting it inside the 185:

After getting the machine back together I put in about 20 miles of trail. I was short on time, so didn't get to put in as many sets as I would have liked, but it's a start. I'm happy conditions are finally good enough to travel the river.

Work's been getting in the way of running my trapline the way I want to the last few weeks, so I had to make a quick day trip to check the line before I headed out on a work trip.
The line I put in via snowmachine paid off pretty good though. Picked up 8 more marten and the first wolf and the first wolverine of the season!

Picked up this 80lb female in a #9 pee post:

A good, full footed catch.

Judging by tracks, it looked like she was traveling with 2-3 other wolves and they didn't even slow down when she got caught. Kept right on trotting down the trail.

The wolverine was a nice mature male in a 330 cubby set under a cut bank:

I hope to get more line in next week when I get back. I believe the snowmachine trail makes a big difference in funneling critters to sets.

Thank you all for the comments, help, hints, and suggestions.

Nice work. Looks like you still have a bit of snow too. Way to start off the New Year. Be safe.
