Okay, I've got an otter tag here in Wisconsin this year. One spot I have is an old trout farming pond. There's no trout being raised in it anymore, but it looks like something about otter sized has been coming under the fence from the creek and into the water. Should a guy try a 160 right in the fence openings? Should I try to get them down in the creek? The trout pond is spring fed, so it doesn't freeze. It drops off straight to 4 feet deep from the bank, I'm not sure that a foothold would work, I don't know where to set it since there's not really a slide that I could put the trap in the water. If I could figure out how to put pictures on here I'd show what I'm talking about. I guess what I'm really looking for is maybe a differnt idea I haven't thought of. Help a guy out?

We can't use conibears on land, so I can't speak to that other than to say I wouldn't choose a 160 on purpose. If he pond isn't too big, I'd walk the whole thing looking for entry and exit points, otter toilets, or dead fish parts. If you can see where the otter is going in and out of the water at another spot and it's shallow enough the otter has to use its feet, then a #3,4, or 5 foothold on a drowner as a blid set may work. If there is anything to narrow down around the waters edge, then a 280 or 330 may be best. Don't overlook any kind of exposed roots if there are trees around. Otters seem to go out of their way to waned in an out a root wad. And don't overlook a baited pocket set either.

160 sounds kinda small for an otter to me. I'd use a 220 right in the spot under the fence.

Yep,220 right where he is going thru a tight spot.A 160 will kill otter stone dead if set in the right spot so he doesn't avoid it.
Otter in a 160.
