Not as far south as you but the coon in my neck of the woods stay denned up pretty much anytime the temp gets in the 20s. And when it warms back up, it seems to take a day or two to get them moving again. Your mileage may vary.

i dont expect to see any coon or possum movement for the next couple days till it warms back up. Its suppose to be 21 here for a couple nights and that seems to shut them down. k9s slow down too for me. I know plenty of northern guys catch in the snow, but i think the coyotes around here migrate to florida for a few days when it drops down like its about to. I didnt reset any sets today that made catches. I will continue to do my daily checks, but i will wait till this cold snap passes before i get everything up and going again.

We had a good dusting of snow last night, and the only thing in my traps this morning was a opossum, go figure. But on the bright side I know my sets are working.

had one possum covered in icicles and an angry male coyote this morning. Had about 3 other traps that were set off with no catches. The one i inspected had a chunk of ice holding the jaws open. pretty sure the set off traps were coyote misses. I know 2 were coyotes, i followed fresh tracks straight to the empty traps. I dont use peat or antifreeze cause in about 3 days it will be back up to 70 degrees and tank tops again. I didnt expect anything this morning, so i guess i wont expect anything again tonight and we will see what happens. I think about all the ice chunks are melted now so pretty sure traps will be frozen down in place lol.

With another cold 16* night ahead I made sure I tripped all traps and moved body grips out of boxes. Figured if something was scrounging for food in this weather they deserved a free meal. On my way back out of the woods I spotted what seemed to be a herd of penguins! My 1st reaction was I must be suffering from hypothermia and I had to be hallucinating! But then I saw that they were being chased by a polar bear and I realized I was ok! One of the penguins dropped a map of Louisiana and had circled Galliano, LA.! Is their a penguin recipie in the cajun cookbook??? I wonder if Bud G. knows what the daily bag limit is on penguins??? It's just too cold down here! Sounds like it's too cold for the trapper. The critters are ok.

at 1100 today there were several does in the back of the fields out grazing and a decent buck crossed the road in front of me. Hunters where i trap are reporting the bucks running does hard right now. been seeing a few yotes out in the fields too around lunch. Seems like they are all waiting until it warms up a little to get out and about.
Caught most everything lately with a standard big dirthole with some tainted bobcat meat and beaver parts down the hole. nothing special.

there wasnt full coverage of white stuff everywhere here but where it did stick i found a couple fresh tracks and found out where they were traveling...i saw that a few traps need to be moved a few yards. I was close, but not close enough, as in wrong side of a fencerow or road. next few days im gonna be adjusting some sets and i expect to connect with the few that are coming by. If i could have actual powdery snow on the ground for a few days and let them travel it so i could actually see where they are moving i could make vast improvements in my catch rate.
