The correct dimension for the box ends that hold the pipe is 12 x 12 not 24x 24 as in the article. It is a typo. Leon has had several calls about it from all over the country. Thanks.

Hey KYT, In Maine a 160/220 needs to be 100% underwater. Do you think this would work? Rig the float so that the downstream end is under water with a 160/220 there. Use a foothold in the upstream side on a slide wire that would go to the float's anchor?

I don't know. I've seen a mink floating box on the web that the conibear is under water and the other end is screened in with the bait above water. You guys that have that restriction might try this in an otter size. The visibility above the water is important. Several guys here in Kentucky are regularly catching otter with the float. It's worth trying a couple in those spots that have fluctuating water daily. I took one the other day with the float just out from a very bare otter crossover.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'll just use two footholds on slide wires. I drive by lots of otter & mink, but up and down water levels prevent me from setting for them.

Kytrapper and trapperman222, the floating mink box is on the fur harvesters website.

that was a very interesting article! I can see it working for otters they are curious of anything that floats. LOL I was assuming the measurements was wrong unless you planned on using M.B1216! but I believe that's just the thing for some of these big lakes. Anchored down in ten foot of water.Theft would be the only thing id be scared of

You can add brush and grass atop them to help hide them a little. If that black hole turns toward a person it's a eye catching as it is to an otter.
