I received everything to build some Alberta style kill spring snares. I ended up getting some #285 lb breakaway s hooks for the cam locks. When using these #285 lb. breakaways should I still add some deer stops since I live in whitetail country? If so, how far up on snare should I put the deer stop to make a sufficient loop once the snare is complete? I plan on using the snares for coyote, but I would like them to still be able to hold a fox if possible. As always thank you, the trappers on this site are great.

Unless required by law I’d leave em off.

The only way to not have deer issues is to stay off the heavily used deer trails. It is what it is.

Agree! Tried both ways this year and can tell you I will be staying with the breakaways! Plus if you are using deer stops and snag something bigger than a deer, the breakaways will still function but the deer stop may make your loop too small to work properly. Neither is required by law but breakaways are cheap and why take a chance and have to deal with your local game warden?

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Exactly , thats what the breakaways are for . I might add I NEVER use a duck stick even if I dont think that a deer will come along ..murphys law .
