Is 18 inches long eneough for coon and opossum I drove my homemade 18 inch rebar stakes in to the ground and was able to pull them out pretty easy? I'm thinking 24 Inches would be better

I think you answered your own question. In my soil 18 is enough as long as nothing is overhead for the coon to pull up on, but I have to use my hammer to pull them.

Depending on what you’re soil conditions are like? Sand, loam, clay? Unless it’s sandy ? I would say 18” is plenty long.

If there's any question of them holding, double them up. Always set for the largest animal you MIGHT catch.

Last year I got annoyed because my friend kept telling me i was a wimp for using 2 stakes on yote traps. All I herd was that yotes aient that strong, and they wont pull a stake. Well long story short, I used one stake because I was fed up with hearing it, and now I am missing a bridger #3. Stake for anything, not just what you are after.

I was pulling from the side with a flat stake I walked around and the stake twisted and came loose than I just pulled up and it came out no problem

First thing I ever caught was in a 110 I set for squirrel. Came out the next day it was gone. Day later there's a possum next to my truck with the 110 around it.

The advise I got here was best...even if you're setting for a mouse...stake for an elephant.

I started just using cable on mine. Stakes just add too much weight for carrying. Of course sometimes there isn't a tree in the coon trail. But 18 ins should do fine. You are stronger than a 20 lb coon aren't you?

Many places where I trap coons the ground can be soft and or wet so I have put double stake swivels on all of my foothold and DP traps. I did make them now about 16-18 inches and out of 3/8 inch rebar so they are not too heavy. I welded a nut on the ends and twist them out easily with a vice grips.

Well if I ain't stronger then a boar coon I might need to re-think my life. I made mine 18 inches out of 1/2 inch rebar because it's just what homedepot had and a nut welded on top. Should I do double stakes or longer single stakes I don't have to worry about weight because the places I will be trapping I can get to with a 4 wheeler. let me know what you would do would do

Are you using 1/2 inch rebar, using two, and pounding them in at an angle, so that they make an "X" below ground? I welded 5/8 nuts to mine, and they take a beating. I'm trappig in sandy soil, and I have to use a rebar puller to remove them. I use the same double stake swivels that GREENCOUNTYPETE posted a link for.

Yeah 1/2 inch and a nut on top built them myself. I made my own flat stakes I took the biggest thickest washer I could find drilled a hole in the side of them and ran a s hook through they are solid as a rock the stake just won't hold

×2 on that a possom may not pump it out but I've heard of red fox getting in them. I got a otter in a muskrat set yesterday with a duke 1.5 it easing even on a drowner but it was a 36 incl oak tomatoe stake and it swelled so she wrapped up and drowned.
Moral of the story u never no what's gonna be in that trap when u walk up.

Put a cable on them . Loop in the end , around a tree, drop the trap
thru the loop, push it into the ground . catch coon.

I was thinking about that but it's just easier for me to use stakes their isn't always a tree or root. I am going to be trapping big hard woods creeks and pines so stakeing is just easier. But I am going to rig a few with a cable and a loop. Once I buy more DPs. That's a purty coon too

Yes sometimes the spot you want to set doesn't have a tree. But if its like were I trap just follow the trail until you come to a sapling. They are going somewhere when they make the track you see. Got that one this morning. Behind a pizza hut. LOL
City coons. Once people find out what you are doing coon places are pretty numerous. Especially around restaurant dumpsters.
