Under the ice you get a lot more extremity catches with 7x7.Feet,tail,nose etc.The thing about 7x7 1\16 or 3/64 is they will still snag a beaver even after the loops have been knocked down.

I don't load 1x19 for beaver under ice,but do load it for cats and fox on land.
If I was to use loaded snares in water I would have the lock at the 10 o'clock position to keep the water movement from firing the snare prematurely.

Boco, do you have any under ice snare setups to show? Thanks

So you don’t use baited snares under ice.

How do you use 330 at the house? How do you find the runs?

Thanks

I find the runs by looking at the house, and tapping the ice with the feed hook or chisel. Then saw out a chunk of ice over the run, feel for the sides then fill the run with traps.I use 5 ft superstands(good for the vast majority of houses) and if the water is deeper then I use tamarack poles in a tee-pee set.
I still use baited snarepoles or 330's if I am just trapping a house or two while trapping other fur.
If I am doing spring beaver(under ice) and setting many houses each day I use the 330's,for speed and efficiency.

The runs are depression/trough areas they have been travelling regularly...an underwater trench kinda.

I was taught to never set the house, since if they find a dead family member there, they will hole up for several days.

SEtting it so it flops to the side can help in this case.
