Bought 6 new duke#4 off set jaw traps. The loose jaw sits extremely high not allowing trap to sit level. How is this corrected? My regular jaw Duke#4 Traps don't have this problem.

Give a slight twist to the lever. As springs relax you may have to twist back to keep jaw level.

Wish I had more time to trap....

You can also bend the dog till it makes the jaw that it is against go down more, then the other jaw will go down more and set flat.

I remember when you could just set traps as they came out of the box (other than dyeing) . No need to work them over just to get them to set right. I liked it when traps were made in North America exclusively. BTW, I hate modifying traps extensively also, other than maybe adding a longer chain, etc. I think a trap should be suitable for what it is intended for just as it was constructed.

x4 waggler, That is why I don't buy many traps now days. All the old traps I have all been recoiled and don't need to be adjusted. I found with the Duke brand they all needed work. I don't mind to do it because I like messing with them but for a beginner there is a lot of trial and error.

this wont effect the loose jaw which is the problem. Ive had same issue. Like strike said twist the levers and that will drop the loose jaw

I ordered a Vic/monty #2 dogless this fall just to see if I liked em. The pan stuck up at a 60 degree angle and the levers were distorted big time. Messed with it for an hour and finally thought I had it. Switched the chain and swivels, when I went to plant it it would not fire. Threw it in the truck and it's still there. And I do believe its made in America. Perhaps I got a lemon? All the manufactures would have to do is use good steel! And inspect them before packaging.. If I would have been a newbie I may have never trapped.....Rant over thanks for listening

I heard a story about when dad was at a convention somewhere. This was probably in the early 90s or late 80s. He purchased a dozen brand new Victor 1 1/2 coils. He dumped them out on the table and said, "We now have enough parts to begin making a dozen quality traps." He loved improving on traps, even those made in America back in the day.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

The way your dad explained to me is these are just a platform to work with.. The coyotes forced us all to modify back then! When your dad talked I listened very closely!
