Didn't have a single trap fired last night. Guess I can blame it on the full Moon! I cant really complain, Overall I have had a pretty good run since I have gotten back into trapping. I am hoping that February is good. I've got some Turkey hunters that want me to move on their lease soon as deer season is over. They are telling me that they have lot of trail camera pictures of coons in their food plots and Chufa patches. I would say their plots average about an acre each. Have any of yall ever set up multiple DP's and coil spring traps around a food plot or out in food plots? I was thinking about spacing out 7 or 8 traps around each plot. Maybe add a few boxes here and there around some trails. Any input would be appreciated. Thx, BT

yes. it will work fine. I tried experimenting with chufa seeds in dogproofs. I bought a bag of them on sale last fall at the coop. Look to be perfect size to add to some dry mix and toss in a DP. I know last spring when some turkey hunters planted their chufa patches they called me whining to please come kill some coons cause they were walking right down the rows and digging up and eating the chufas they planted. I caught a couple coons and they seemed to stop tearing up the patches so i moved on to better things. Well anything is a better thing than trapping problem coons for free.

Thx for the reply possum man. My original plan was to start trapping some coyotes after deer season but I guess I can do both. My coon customers told me as long as weather stays on the cool side to keep on catching them and they would keep buying them. So maybe I can make a little extra money on coons while I'm trapping coyotes. The trail cam pictures I saw had 5 or 6 coons in a plot at one time. I was thinking about setting 6 or 7 traps on each plot. Do you think after one gets caught the rest will spook? I hate to go to the trouble of driving a bunch of anchors and stakes and just catch one at the time. Thx

you can double and triple on coons fairly easily. within 10yds of each other. if you are out to wipe them out i would stick with a dirt hole with something stinky inside. I dont have very good luck with dp traps. However i can set a perfectly good k9 set and catch every coon and possum in the countryside.

Bayou, when I first started trapping coyotes I made sets around food plots and had the deer snapping my traps (coil springs) every night. If you are gonna set the food plot I'd use the dog proofs baited with sardines. I used that setup around feeders and deer never bothered them and we hammered the coons.

Thanks for the info Coonman... I pulled all my traps yesterday evening off the place I had been trapping, getting ready to move up to that lease I mentioned in my original post. Ill move on up after deer season goes out. I may try to deer hunt a lil this weekend now that the rut is finally kicking in. I'm going to take 24 DP's and 7 or 8 Boxes and set all at one time. Hopefully Ill have a couple of good weekends and make a dent in the coon population. Then I can move on to the Coyotes!
