I remember some bushes of them around here when I was young (30+ years ago). I don't even recall the last I heard anyone speak of them around here. They were just like a small chestnut. I do see them for sale in the spring plant magazine I get in the mail.

Scouts do you remember which magazine you've seen them in?

we had them down here when I was a kid and up to about twenty five years ago. A blight of some sort wiped them out along with a lot of our dogwoods. I am curious as to where you can buy the seedlings as well.

I know where a couple of trees are. I also have a couple I bought and planted on my place a couple of years ago. Contact me in October if you want some. However its probably not legal to ship them to Cali. Most places I buy plants from online say will not ship to Cali.

Look up Willis Orchard online, that's were I have bought before. About 15-16$ for a 12" sapling barefoot.

The latest issue of American Frontiersman magazine has a good article about them titled “ The Ozark Chinkapin “.
It also mentions The Ozark Chinquapin Foundation ( both spellings are used ) at ozarkchinquapinmembership.org
