Realy?

It seems to me that your account has your address on It, so wouldn't they know where the fur came from?

And placing a X on a bag dosen't tell anyone where the fur came from. You could have fur from 6 different states In that bag.

That and they should be able to track all yhr bags back to the agent from the paperwork you give when you drop off.

Seems more likely they are trying to figure out how many bags they are getting compared to how many they give out.

The agent is supposed to bar code all pelts with your account number so when the pelts are sold they'll know ownership.. Origin of pelts is just a starting point for graders for reference. Some of my fur gets graded for different sections of the country. Good example is coon, some grade Canadian some western, some eastern NC.. But they all came from Southern Michigan..

Common sense catches alot of fur..

Beav - the address on your NAFA account has nothing to do with where the fur came from.

Case on point - the address on your account is Wisconsin. Yet you often trap rats in South Dakota.

Not all agents do bar coding. Some of them simply collect the pelts and deliver the sealed bags to Stiught. The pelts are bar coded there.

My guess is he is funning you, the X just lets him know it's accounted for.

Isn't that what I said? And placing a X on a bag dosen't tell anyone where the fur came from. You could have fur from 6 different states In that bag.

It can tell them where the shipment originated without having to read tags etc.

what difference does that make?

The bag hits the deck at NAFA Stoughton and a bunch of Hispanics open the bag sort out the fur then It's laid on the table and It's bar coded with the shippers account#.

I bet good Old Jesus could care less what color X Is on the bag If he even sees It. LOL

They may want to cut pick up routes or expand them according to how many bags of fur are being shipped from an area. That would be a quick way to tally them.

This is the first year I'm selling anything to NAFA. If they cut my route - I'm gonna be hacked off.

They know that when the agent delivers the fur to the head quarters. They get paid by how much fur they collect.
A X on a bag Isn't going to be of any value.

They are doing it for a reason.A lot of the fur pick up is done by local guys over a big area, then the big truck picks up the bulk from the local guys to bring to the warehouse. Some trappers throw their bags on the big truck individually some throw fur on the local trucks and some use the local guy for early drop off.

I will have to check on It.
It might just be some thing the agent does for his system.

NAFA has changed their tracking system for non-bar coding agents about 2 or 3 times in the last 8 years.
At one time the agent gave shipments a number based on the order in which it was received e.g. if you were the 23rd shipper on his route them he wrote 23 on your invoice and 23 on the bag tags. Every agent had a different colored marker just for them. This was meant to speed up the bar coding process in WI. NAFA is always looking for ways to stream line time consuming process such as the the bar coding.
I would bet anything the x on your tag is some way of making things run smoother on the warehouse end and has nothing to do with origin or section.
