I was going through the dirt hole archives and seen where Asa mentioned THE "OLD INDIAN" DIRT HOLE SET. Anyone have pics of how this was constructed? All pics are not view able because of photo bucket.

Thanks

I'll bet it is similar to the "ol' buried bait set". Perhaps Asa will chime in .

wetdog This is the Link to the Article on the Lenon Lures Website

www.LenonLures.com How to Trap Fox & Coyote by Herb Lenon

Within the the Article is a description of the "Old Indian" Dirt Hole Set. I use it and variations all the time. Very similar to what folks call a step down set. It is not a buried bait set. That is shown in detail in Herb Lenon's Classic DVD.

Mr. Lenon has described this set many times on here before. Hopefully this spring Asa will feel up to going out and shooting some pictures of the set. I have all kinds of good Lenon and trapping information to upload to Lenon Lures, hopefully after trapping season I'll have a little extra time.

Thank you sir I have read it at least ,2 dozen times. I use Lemons and Dobbins styles of trapping combined.
It make checking empty fox traps a thing of the past for me.

Wetdog besides memorizing everything Mr. Lenon could teach me - Mr. Charles Dobbins book Variations of Dirt Holes Set and Variation Flat Set books should be read by all that want to learn to trap both Fox and Coyote. Too many short cuts taken by folks in recent times saying this or that does not matter when trapping canines, tried it, and it does matter.

I agree whole heartily the only shortcut I've found that works for me is practice until it becomes just second nature. In the off season I make hundreds of sets and test lures and pee

This is good information, thanks guys, I plan on reading those books and the Lenon website (I need all the help I can get with canines!). I have been using Lennon's muskrat lure ever since I started trapping as a teen and then again when I picked up trapping again a few years ago the first thing I bought was Lennon's! Now I have Lennon's for fox/coyote/muskrat and mink! The old timer I learned from used nothing but Lennon's lures, he swore by them.

The Herb Lenon DVD shows some pretty interesting stuff and shows in detail how to make the "Old Indian" dirt hole set.

Herb Lenon was definitely ahead of his time. Imagine all the effort involved in making a trapping film in the 1930's - with no sound! Been watching it off and on with my young sons. Kudos to John for continuing to make such a great piece of trapping history available.

jwood I'm glad you and your boys are enjoying Herb's Dvd, Asa gave me a copy many years ago and I too was always amazed at how far ahead of his times he was. I have read all of Herb Lenon's Books many times over. I enjoyed our conversations and I will send you one copy of Herb Lenon books at a time read.
