I need to catch a skunk before season is over for its glands, what's the best wait to do it in cold weather?

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

Anything skunky smelling, bacon or pure fat (like from roast trimmings), make a cat set, anything sweet, beaver castor. You can use a small cage with either trash bag or anything to cover, foothold. That's how I've always caught them. Good luck

I just caught my first skunk last week. I had some old home made bacon that was freezer burnt that i ground up and mixed with about a pint of bacon grease and a couple drops of violator 7 in a large hay set with a bridger #2 dogless. The temp was up to the high 40s and rainy that day. I managed take care of it without getting sprayed. I thought it would be a good idea to skin it at home in my attached garage, the family disagreed!

Sure you can. I have shipped out quite a few frozen by flat rate priority. I wrapped them frozen in news paper. boxed them and put in the freezer until the day I shipped out.

Fish flavored wet cat food and sardines will catch any skunk in the area. Use a smallish sized, covered cage trap to avoid cats and help keep it from spraying.

Skunks are denned up for the winter right now and wont be moving much but the males are just starting to roam as breeding season isn't far away.

The big question is when does your season end? I took one the other day during a warm up (37 degrees)with a fish baited cubby guarded with a 160

Good luck.

Keep your eye on the weather. If you get a warm spell coming, set a few traps. You might get lucky, a skunk could beat a possum to one of your sets!

Season? People have seasons on skunks? Lol
Jk

Fishy stuff works but does risk catching cats
I tend to make banana type baits for them.
And definitely be setup on warmups

I catch tons in baited cubbies every year. Beaver meats works good, fish works even better. Look for old farm yards they seem to hold lots of skunks but I've caught them in almost every type of area. If there's one skunk there's usually more.. And as everyone else has said warm weather is key.
