Hey yall in nd we have a law that says our chains have to be 8 inches from base to anchor.I asked my warden what about drags and he said it applies to them as well. So that basically cuts out drags right? Can anyone clarify?

Your warden is wrong, drags can be any length since they are not considered to be solidly staked. I like them to have 8-10'of chain. And when your trap is solidly staked, it only has to be 8" or shorter if you do not have a shock spring. If you do have a shock spring, your chain length can exceed 8".

per ncwildlife.com

 Chain length:
o Trap chain cannot be longer than 8 inches from anchor
point to the base of the trap unless fitted with a shockabsorbing
device with at least 40 lbs. and not more than 75
lbs. of pull.
o Trap chain can be measured from anchor point (solid
ground) to the base of the trap.

that warden needs to read his reg book.

PIT-19 In-Line Cushion Spring : Paws-I-Trip is also a NC legal shock spring. 53 lbs.

If you prehook a drag, it would be considered a solid ground anchor so it would need a spring.
