I took advice here and bought 330's and a couple mb750's. I have my 1/2" rerods cut. But would putting a coat of Rustoleum primer on the rods before using cause any negative problems with the slider? Thanks.

I’m going to get mine painted up well because I intend to keep them outside and not taking up space in my shop. I’ll probably do as mentioned and paint them every year.

What length are your drowner rods? I’m considering going that route but transporting is a issue.

I will go ahead and paint. I made the rods 10ft. Some of the ditches look on the smallish side so I may cut a couple down to 8 or 8-1/2 ft. I plan on bending the ends some if needed. It should help getting them stuck in without having to bend the rod to the bank as much.

I have 8', 10' and 12' rods. The 10' rods are the ones I use the most. The eight footers I use the least because they're too short the vast majority of the time when I want to get the end far enough into the bottom in at least three foot of water. When setting I've rarely wished I've had rods shorter than 10', but many, many times I've wished the rod was longer. Remember, every time a beaver or other critter can come up for air it gives it more time to fight the trap and escape. Deeper is always better.

10 footers should do the trick. At least you can get 2 out of a 20 foot stick.

If the ditch Is to narrow for a 10 footer just angle the rod up or down the ditch. If there Is current angle It down stream.

Paint drowning rods? I guess If It trips your trigger go for It.

Rusty rods are easy to see by passers by. Dark rods just look like sticks.

It must depend on your water type. Around here rusty rods blend in the best but I can see where darker would be better in the more tannin stained waters.

Agreed!

I wear gloves so the rust stays there.

Too much rod can also go up over the bank and the end bungied to a sapling and main rod is t-staked at banks edge.

I hauled 10-12 footers in a 6' Toyota bed for yrs and had no problems, just secured the loose ends with a small ratchet strap to the bumper, bungy at rear corner of bed, running sideways to the other corner, so the loose end hung towards roads shoulder..and a flag on the t-stake loop.
Also can use 8" PVC pipe secured and slide rods into tube.
