Question for some of the more experienced snare men out there
My son and I tried snaring for the first time this year, small time behind our house, like 4 snares small
Caught 2 a couple weeks into it, and about a week later had a 3rd one chew out, all morning checks
Went to check about a week after the chew out
, and surprisingly had another one, this time he was wearing the remainder of the old snare!!
These snares were all close together, like in a 60yd area, so I was surprised and relieved that he wasn’t running around with a snare hanging on his neck for long
Just wondering how many others have similar catches?

Caught the same one 3 times.

I assume you had the same one 3x in a leg Hold?
How did you know it was the same one, not trying to be a wise ....
Mine had the old snare from the lock down, and was fairly tight on his neck, I’m the only one around who snares that I’m aware of

Had more than my fair share of chew outs this year. Got one that had a snare around it’s neck, but it’s only one out of 4-5. So yes it does happen.

No, cabled 3 times. It still had my snare loops on its neck the last time I caught it. This was a damage control coyote that weighed 50#, and it was approximately 5 weeks from the first catch to the last. First two catches were within 50 yards and a week, the last was about 3 miles away.

Helps alot to use 1x19 cable and barrel swivels with killing locks and entanglement, if allowed. You'll have a percentage of chew outs with relaxing locks eventually. I don't favor CRs!!

Common sense catches alot of fur..

I did switch cable from what my chewout was, should have tangled easily in the thicket he was in
Maybe should have anchored higher...
I’ll work on trying to perfect my methods next year, will run a bigger line then
Nice knowing I’m not the only one, thought it was kinda odd to catch same one later

Some just don't tangle, Longer snares help alot too. All my CRs have barrel swivels and are at least 10 foot long with BADs. All anchored solid to a tree or 24"re rod . Had 10 chew outs one season then I switched to 1x19. They have no idea what that thing around there neck is, they just carry on..

I hip snared one last year. I was walking up on him and he lunged and the snare broke. 2 days later caught a double in footholds at the other end of the lake dam where I had snared the one earlier. might have been 50 yards away.
when I dispatched them the second one was wearing my snare around his hips. he was about cut in half. I don't think he would have lived but didn't act like it bothered him.

First time after a long break myself and just getting back into it. Learned and relearned a lot of things and continuing to improve my sets. I switched to 1 x 19 with extra swivels, torque springs and breakaways along with 5'-6' extensions and it seems to help. Had one chew out before but luckily a hunter shot it about a week later. I'm impressed as to what a coyote with go through and keep going so now I try not to underestimate them.

They are survivors all right. I had one chew out that I was relieved to get again in a snare two weeks later. I upgraded my equipment after that.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
