I say it was a dog

New property I just started trapping, the critter came down a deer trail that crosses my path that I walk checking traps We have about 16" of snow

There were other coyotes on the deer path but they crossed over my trail and followed the deer path, thus guy turned on to my trail and followed it to the end where he set of the 550. In a dirt hole set, no trap circle so either it came up slow from the frozen ground ( had it treated, but it was 5 degrees last night )

Size says dog to me. As well as shape. But for a dog to be out running last night is a very irresponsible act, but I know it happens as I caught a Pitbull Friday at another location where there should be no dogs, it had a collar, and the whinny animal control worker was mad that it was caught in a trap , she was quickly explained leash laws and private property rights

Probably like this little guy that I let go. I'm sure he is a high $ dog. My buddy says that I should start a bounty system for the return of lost dogs. LOL It is always amazing to me how many dogs I catch in the middle of a 5,000 acre deer/turkey hunting club. Most are not hunting dogs either.

I put a couple of trail cams up to see if I can get a look at what's doing it

Last year on the property where I caught the pitbull Friday, I caught an old black lab, gray faced old man, let it go and caught it agai. In same set a couple days later, contacted animal control and they said it was missing dog from a couple of miles away that had been gone for 5-6 days. The lady came over and gave me a hug and thanked me for catching her dog.

That dog got lucky, x2 about the leash laws. Oh I have lots of stories concerning dogs and wardens giving tickets to the owners.. It's not the dogs fault, it's the owners.. One lady demanded the warden write a ticket so he went to his car and came back and handed her the ticket for not complying with the leach law. Bout bit my tongue off.. The look on her face was priceless.
