A question for you beaver trappers, especially the ones who have done it for a long time. With the availability of beaver traps with large jaw spreads (MB, Bridger, others), would it make sense and cents to try and obtain old standbys, such as Blake & Lamb 44's or Newhouse 48's, through flea markets, auctions, etc. I'm certain there would be a financial premium associated with acquiring those traps; but, there's also a nostalgia associated with catching beaver and otter with them, too.

Opinions?

If you're asking if the old traps are better, the answer is no. If your looking to make money on old traps, that depends on what you pay.

I've been away from trapping for 30 years; and, the trapping landscape has changed quite a bit, particularly with equipment. My question was directed at the practicality of obtaining the "old standby" beaver traps and putting them back into use, versus, purchasing some of the newer ones. I believe you answered my question with your first sentence.

Thanks,

I'm nostalgic and old schoolish. I like longsprings for beaver, i have and use #4 newhouses, 4.5 sleepy creeks, #5 duke/bridger etc. but i am not gonna pay high prices for 44 B&L's or 48 NH's(illegal here anyway).
